Treatment Descriptions

Photofacial/Intense Pulse Light and Radiofrequency Treatments

IPL Treatments safely and comfortably fade the appearance of rosacea, telangieclasia and sun damage, giving the skin a more even tone and color. This procedure utilizes intense visible pulsed light and radio frequency to effectively treat skin conditions. An IPL treatment consists of a series of three to five treatments, which are given 3-4 weeks apart.

We use the Aurora Laser, made by Syneron.

Hair Removal

Permanent hair reduction is successful for both men and women. Hair Removal Lasers remove hair by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle itself. This technology uses combined energies designed to recognize and target the difference in the density of the hair from surrounding tissue, therefore eliminating the hair follicle while leaving the skin unharmed. Hair Removal is achieved through five to ten treatments, done seven weeks apart. There is no down time with this procedure.

Leg Vein Treatment

Sclerotherapy is done with an injection in the superficial telangieclasia on the ankles, legs and thighs. A sclerosing solution irritates the lining of the vessel, but that will go away. Once eliminated, there can be hyperpigmentation in the skin overlying the vein. This will fade with time. The wastes are absorbed through the body's natural metabolism process. Multiple treatments may be required to achieve desired results.

BOTOX* Cosmetic

FDA Approved BOTOX treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyes. It is also commonly used to treat forehead wrinkles and crows' feet. It takes approximately five days for the full effect of BOTOX to become visible. This procedure only takes 10 minutes, and there is no down time afterward — BOTOX delivers dramatic results with no side effects and is non-invasive.

History of BOTOX*

Botulinum toxins were first researched in the late 1960s to treat neurological disorders. In 1989, BOTOX was approved by the FDA to treat eye muscle disorders such as blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking), and strabismus (lazy eye). In 2000, BOTOX was approved to treat dystonia, a disorder causing severe neck and shoulder contratctions. Doctors observed that an unusual side effect of BOTOX was the softening of the frown lines between the eyes — this discovery lead to an FDA approval in 2002 for the use of BOTOX in treating moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, called glabellar lines.

Restylane* & Perlane*

Restylane and Perlane are FDA approved to treat moderate to severe wrinkles such as nasolabial folds. Ice packs are used to minimize the discomfort. Restylane & Perlane can last longer than six months and touch ups can be performed at any time. Restylane is a non-animal based hyaluronic acid and can be injected without pretesting. Both Restylane & Perlane are gels that when injected, add volume to lips and lift up wrinkles and folds.

The difference between the two is this: Perlane is a larger particle than Restylane, so it is not typically used in the lips. Perlane works better when it is layered with Restylane in the deep nasolabial folds.

Before Treatment

  • Sign the Restylane or Perlane consent forms
  • Avoid aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort or high doses of Vitamin E supplements as these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site
  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, discuss this with your physician as they may prescribe a medication to minimize occurrence
  • No anesthesia is required
  • The fully trained associate will administer the injections with a very fine needle
  • The Zimmer Mini Cryo is used to help control pain during the procedure

After Treatment

  • Slight swelling, bruising or some redness may occur — this is temporary and can be treated with an ice pack
  • No heavy exercise for 24 hours
  • Results generally last about six (6) months
  • If you experience redness, pain or bruising lasting more than seven (7) days, contact your physician

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels are a non-invasive technique for restoring wrinkled, blemished, unevenly pigmented, or sun-damaged skin. A chemical solution is used to peel away the skin's damaged outer layers revealing a smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin surface. Each treatment is customized for patient skin type, specific problem areas and the delicate areas of the face. The depth of the peel is dependent on the concentration and type of acid, the duration of contact, and a person's skin type and sensitivity.

Before Treatment

  • Sign the Chemical Peel consent form
  • Alert the physician about any medical or skin conditions: Herpes, Accutane use, recent peel or other facial procedures
  • No make-up or contact lenses should be worn to the office
  • No anesthesia is needed
  • The skin is cleansed thoroughly to remove all oil and debris
  • The peeling agent is applied evenly to the skin surface
  • The agent is rapidly neutralized after several minutes with another solution
  • Ice may be applied if needed

After Treatment

  • May experience some stinging, redness, irritation and crusting
  • Common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness and dryness of the skin
  • Do not touch or peel the flaking skin — add moisturizer
  • Frequent face washing with water is discouraged (too drying)
  • If drugs for Herpes were prescribed, they should be continued for one week
  • Immediate return to normal activities
  • Begin a regular program of sunscreens and sun protection. Avoid sun exposure for one month following the series of peels.
